Import Data Entry Clerk / Customs Brokerage Account Representative

Chain Customs Services is the ideal solutions for companies whose enterprise dictates regular international shipping. The customs process can be tricky endeavor beset by a myriad of opportunities for disaster.

Import Data Entry Clerk / Customs Brokerage Account Representative is responsible for coordinating and executing shipments to ensure adequate service levels of clients are met. This position supports the company's day to day functions and is the direct liaison for assigned shipments.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as the customer service liaison between the Company and the customer and within our Logistics Team.
  • Processes Custom and PGA (partner government agency) entries for clearance of goods into the United States.
  • Opens files, processes ISF data and reviews paperwork to formulate questions, comments and requests to allow for full compliant entries.
  • Light classification skills needed based on the HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule)
  • Sends information/document requests to company's colleagues, suppliers, service providers and/or U.S. Government agencies as needed.
  • Communicates affectively within Customs department and Logistics department on all issues affecting customs brokerage and corresponding logistics matters.
  • Files document requests and feedback, correspondence and documents in a file folder identified by the applicable client for current and future reference.
  • Ensures compliance with regard to U.S. Government regulatory agencies such as FDA, USDA, EPA, FCC, etc.
  • Coordinates shipping details as applicable Carries, Airlines, Agents, etc.
  • Verify shipment weight and convert foreign currency
  • Maintain communication with customers, carriers and vendors
  • Coordinate pick-ups and invoice files in a timely manner.
  • Assist customers with questions, complaints, requests, tracking and tracing
  • Handles accounting processes accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordination of shipments from airline, ocean piers and CFS (container freight station) to customer/consignee destination.
  • Review documentation or issue documents to meet government regulations and carrier regulations.
  • Ensure email and telephone calls are promptly and politely answered
  • Other duties as required and assigned
  • Works with and reports directly to the Director of Customs
    • High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency
    • Minimum 2 years experience in a customs brokerage or an equivalent combination of both education and experience.
    • Definitive knowledge of Foodstuffs relating to FDA and USDA requirements
    • Knowledge of U.S. Government Agency requirements
    • Knowledge of General CBP and PGA clearance of freight
    • PC literate with experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills that demonstrate a proven ability to develop relationships with a range of internal and external customer.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills
    • Ability to read and interpret documents
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
    • Ability to multi task
    • Mathematical skills essential to ensure accuracy in calculations

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and temperate climate conditions.
