seeking a part-time visionary Executive Director to lead and grow
our nonprofit organization, which marks its fifth anniversary in
2025. Since 2020, Groupmuse Foundation has been expanding classical
music to be more inclusive and vibrant by empowering musicians
through financial, technological, and career support. (For our

groupmuse.org/impact).We're looking for our next Executive Director
(ED) to significantly expand the fundraising infrastructure of
Groupmuse Foundation, so that its overall annual fundraising is
commensurate with the impact of the Groupmuse project overall -
10,000 house concerts organized, millions raised for musicians, and
a significant global impact. The right candidate should target a
doubling (or more) and greater diversification of annual
fundraising in the next 2-3 years.Key programs include support of
Groupmuse Cooperative, the Planetary Music Movement (our concert
series uplifting musicians of African descent), and our Fiscal
Sponsorship program.The Executive Director will also join Groupmuse
Cooperative, with eligibility to become a Worker-Owner in the co-op
after six months, and therefore reports to both the Cooperative's
Steering Committee and also Groupmuse Foundation's board of
directors. They will work closely with our dedicated part-time
Development Director to nurture relationships with outside
partners, including funders and music nonprofits. The ED manages
organizational operations including budgeting, fundraising, and
strategic planning. The ideal candidate will have a proven track
record in engaging with multiple stakeholders within the arts
community, including artists, arts organizations, donors, as well
as government and private funders to drive our mission forward.This
role is mostly remote, with almost all team meetings and work
completed online via Zoom, Google Suite, Groupmuse.com, email, and
our messaging app Discord. However, candidates in NYC, the San
Francisco Bay Area, Boston, or Los Angeles are preferred so they
may attend Groupmuse events, and take in-person meetings with
donors and Foundation Board members.Responsibilities
- Strategic planning, leadership, and operations
- Stakeholder engagement and fundraising
- Managing fundraising campaigns and events
- Representing the organization at conferences
- Budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and oversight
- Leading Foundation board recruitment, onboarding, and engagement
- Serving as liaison between the Foundation board and Groupmuse Co-op staff
- Planning and leading quarterly Foundation board meetings (in
collaboration with the Development Director)The ideal candidate
would be:
- Experienced as an Executive Director or in a similar leadership role within a nonprofit
- Experienced in fundraising through individual giving, institutional giving, and grants
- 5 years or more of fundraising experience
- Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Tech-savvy, comfortable learning new tools
- Committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both programmatic and organizational practices
- Optional: Involved in Groupmuse's house concert community as a musician, host, or attendee
- Optional: Experienced with cooperatives or the solidarity
economyPay and Hours
- 15-30 hours per week depending on fundraising season, $30-35 per hour depending on experience ($2,000 - $3,600 per month, tracked and submitted monthly by timesheet)
- Flexible hours for independent work. For team meetings, Zoom meetings are mostly held between 12pm ET - 5pm ET (our team is bi-coastal)
- Unlimited paid vacation and sick days as long as your weekly and monthly responsibilities are being met. Eligible for Paid Family Leave as requested..
- Reimbursement through QSEHRA of health insurance monthly premiums (up to $285 per month)
- Groupmuse employees are expected to voice up if their monthly
compensation feels too high or too low.Timeline
